Pathways to Medicine: High School Mentorship Program

Pathways to Medicine is a mentorship program that pairs medical school students with high schoolers in Rhode Island.

About the Program

Pathways to Medicine is a mentorship program at The Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University that pairs medical school students with high schoolers in Rhode Island. Through monthly sessions involving medical case studies, healthcare simulations, and interactive workshops, high school students will develop a myriad of academic skills with encouragement and guidance from their mentors.

The tiered mentorship not only provides high school students with access to real life applications of the topics they learn in class, it provides them with a means of how to turn the subjects they love into lifelong careers in healthcare professions. The program is centered on objective and data-driven strategies to not only educate but create a fostering community that will allow students to build lifelong skills.

What We Do

Pathways sessions will bring the high school students to The Warren Alpert Medical School in Providence, complete with large lecture halls, seminar rooms, and an anatomy suite. Alongside their mentor, students will have full access to these facilities in addition to the school’s digital library.

Using these resources, students will discover how to conduct research, work in a team setting, and present knowledge, all displayed in a year-end project. The abilities the students will gain will undoubtedly prepare them for any future endeavor they pursue, whether in the field of healthcare or not.

Who Is Eligible for the Program?

All high school students are eligible to participate.

That means all 9th through 12th graders enrolled in the current academic school year. Students will be required to travel to Providence for events. We highly encourage Rhode Island residents and students who identify as Underrepresented in Medicine to apply.
